SKYN Latex Free Condoms

SKYN condoms are made from polyisoprene rather than latex. Polyisoprene is a synthetic material that behaves much like latex in use but contains none of the natural rubber proteins that cause latex allergy, which makes SKYN a practical option for anyone who reacts to conventional condoms — or whose partner does.

Why choose a latex free condom?

Latex allergy affects a small but significant number of people, and reactions range from mild irritation and itching to more serious symptoms. Sensitivity can also develop over time in people who previously used latex without difficulty. If you or your partner experience irritation after using conventional condoms, a non-latex option is worth trying — though persistent or severe symptoms should be discussed with your GP or pharmacist rather than self-managed.

Polyisoprene also transfers heat more readily than latex, which is the basis of SKYN’s “closest thing to wearing nothing” positioning. Whether that difference is noticeable is subjective, but the material property is real.

Using SKYN condoms

SKYN condoms are CE-marked medical devices and, used correctly and consistently, offer the same protection against pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections as latex condoms.

  • Check the expiry date on the foil before use.
  • Open the foil carefully at the notch — teeth, scissors and fingernails all risk tearing the condom.
  • Use a new condom every time, and never use two at once.
  • Store somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight. A wallet is not a good long-term home for a condom.

Lubricant compatibility

Water-based and silicone-based lubricants are safe to use with polyisoprene condoms. Oil-based products are not — including baby oil, petroleum jelly, body lotion and some massage oils. These weaken the material and can cause the condom to fail. This is the same restriction that applies to latex.

Sizing and fit

Fit matters for both comfort and reliability — a condom that is too tight is more likely to tear, and one that is too loose can slip. Nominal width is printed on the pack, and it is worth checking against what you currently use rather than assuming brands are interchangeable.
