Constipation is one of the most common digestive complaints in the UK, affecting people of all ages. Laxatives

Laxatives are the most common treatment for constipation. We stock several types including Dulcolax (bisacodyl), a stimulant laxative that works overnight, and Senokot Max, a senna-based option suitable for adults. For a gentler approach, osmotic laxatives such as Laxido and Cosmocol draw water into the bowel to soften stools. Lactulose

Lactulose Solution is a mild osmotic laxative suitable for adults and children. It works by softening stools and is often recommended for constipation during pregnancy or for elderly patients.

Milk of Magnesia

Phillips’ Milk of Magnesia is a gentle osmotic laxative and antacid that relieves constipation and indigestion. It is suitable for adults and children over 3 years.

When to See a Doctor

Most cases of constipation resolve with over-the-counter treatment. However, if your constipation is persistent, accompanied by bleeding, severe pain or unexplained weight loss, speak to your GP as soon as possible.
