Planning a trip abroad? Make sure you’re prepared with the right travel medicines.

Having the right treatments before you go can make the difference between a holiday to remember and one you’d rather forget. At Live Well Nationwide, we stock a full range of travel medicines, available to order online from our GPhC-registered pharmacy with free delivery on orders over £50.

Malaria Prevention

If you’re travelling to a malaria-risk area — including parts of Africa, Asia, Central and South America — you’ll need to start antimalarial tablets before you depart. We stock Maloff Protect (atovaquone/proguanil), one of the most convenient options as it only needs to be started 1–2 days before travel and continued for just 7 days after returning. Not sure if your destination is a malaria-risk area? Call our pharmacists on 01782 310001 for advice.

Travel Sickness

Travel sickness can affect anyone, whether you’re on a long-haul flight, a cross-channel ferry, or a winding mountain road. We stock a range of travel sickness treatments for adults and children including Kwells, Kwells for Kids, Stugeron and Avomine — all available without a GP visit. Kwells and Kwells Kids are particularly popular as they can be taken as little as 20–30 minutes before travel.

Your Travel Medicine Checklist

Beyond prescribed and pharmacy medicines, a well-stocked travel kit should include paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain and fever, antihistamines for insect bites and allergic reactions, antacids for holiday overindulgence, Imodium for travellers’ diarrhoea, rehydration sachets if you’re travelling somewhere hot, and a small first aid kit for minor injuries.

Travelling with Prescription Medication?

If you take regular prescription medicines, keep them in their original labelled packaging when going through customs. Carry enough supply for your trip plus a few days extra in case of delays, and keep them in your hand luggage so they’re accessible during the flight. If you run out while abroad, visit a local pharmacist — most tourist destinations will have one nearby.

Our pharmacists are available to answer any questions about travel health — call us on 01782 310001 or get in touch online.
