AndroFeme 1 is a testosterone cream formulated for women, manufactured by Lawley Pharmaceuticals. Our GPhC-registered pharmacy dispenses AndroFeme 1 to patients and clinics across the UK against a valid private prescription. We do not issue the prescription for this medicine — it must be written by a UK-registered prescriber before we can dispense.
What is AndroFeme 1?
AndroFeme 1 is a 1% (10 mg/g) testosterone cream supplied in a 50 ml tube with a graduated plastic applicator for measuring each dose. The active ingredient is testosterone, a hormone produced naturally by the body in both women and men, at much lower concentrations in women.
It differs from testosterone products such as Testogel and Tostran in that it is formulated and packaged at a strength intended for female dosing, with an applicator calibrated for the volumes involved.
What is AndroFeme 1 used for?
AndroFeme 1 is used in the treatment of low sexual desire in postmenopausal women — clinically termed hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) — where a prescriber has assessed that testosterone supplementation is appropriate. British Menopause Society guidance positions testosterone as an addition for women already established on adequate oestrogen replacement, rather than as a first-line or standalone treatment.
Whether AndroFeme is suitable in any individual case is a decision for the prescribing clinician, following assessment and blood tests. Testosterone in women is generally expected to be initiated by a clinician with experience in menopause care.

AndroFeme 1 was granted a UK marketing authorisation by the MHRA in 2025. Prior to that, it was supplied in the UK as an unlicensed import under a special licence, which is how most UK patients have historically obtained it.
Licensing and NHS availability are separate questions. A marketing authorisation permits the product to be marketed in the UK; it does not place the product on the NHS. Access remains predominantly private. We review this section on a set schedule and date it so you can see when it was last checked.
How AndroFeme 1 is used
Always use AndroFeme 1 exactly as your prescriber has instructed. The dose and duration are set by the prescriber on the basis of your blood results and clinical assessment.
A dose of 0.5 ml of cream, measured with the supplied applicator, delivers 5 mg of testosterone. At that dose one 50 ml tube contains approximately 100 days of treatment.
- Apply to clean, dry, healthy skin — typically the upper outer thigh or lower abdomen, as directed by your prescriber.
- Rotate the application site rather than using the same area each day.
- Allow the cream to absorb before dressing.
- Wash your hands after applying.
- Avoid skin-to-skin contact with the treated area until the cream has been absorbed, to prevent transfer to others.
Store below 25°C. Keep the tube in its original packaging and out of the sight and reach of children.
Blood tests and monitoring
Testosterone treatment in women requires blood monitoring. A baseline testosterone level is normally taken before treatment begins, with repeat testing at intervals during treatment — commonly at three to six months initially and periodically thereafter. The purpose is to confirm levels remain within the female physiological range. Your prescriber will arrange the appropriate schedule; we do not provide monitoring.
Side effects
Like all medicines, AndroFeme 1 can cause side effects, though not everyone gets them. Reported effects include reactions at the application site, acne or oily skin, and increased hair growth at or near the site of application. Effects associated with higher testosterone levels — such as deepening of the voice, scalp hair loss or clitoral enlargement — are uncommon and relate to dose.

Who should not use AndroFeme 1
AndroFeme 1 must not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, by anyone with a known or suspected androgen-dependent cancer, or by anyone with a hypersensitivity to testosterone or to any of the excipients.
Tell your prescriber about all other medicines you take, and about any history of liver, kidney or cardiovascular disease, before starting treatment.
