Eropid 50 mg – Erectile Dysfunction Relief

Eropid is a Pharmacy (P) medicine — available without a prescription following a consultation with a pharmacist. It is for adult men aged 18 and over.

About Eropid 50mg tablets

Eropid tablets contain 50mg of sildenafil. Sildenafil belongs to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors.

Sildenafil was reclassified by the MHRA in 2018 so that the 50mg strength could be supplied from a pharmacy without a prescription, after a pharmacist has assessed suitability.

How Eropid works

Erectile dysfunction occurs when a man cannot get or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual activity. Sildenafil relaxes the blood vessels supplying the penis, allowing blood flow to increase during sexual stimulation.

Eropid only works when you are sexually stimulated. It does not work without stimulation.

Dosage

• One 50mg tablet, taken with water approximately one hour before sexual activity.
• A maximum of one tablet in any 24-hour period.
• Do not take a second tablet on the same day if the first has not worked.

Eropid can be taken with or without food, though it may take longer to work after a heavy or high-fat meal. Drinking alcohol may make it less effective.

If one tablet does not work, speak to your pharmacist or doctor rather than increasing the dose. Higher strengths of sildenafil are prescription-only.

Who can take Eropid

Eropid is for adult men aged 18 and over with erectile dysfunction. It is not for women or for anyone under 18.

The pharmacist will check your suitability before supply. Tell them about all medicines you take and any medical conditions you have.

Who should not take Eropid

Do not take Eropid if you take nitrate medicines for chest pain or heart problems, including glyceryl trinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate and isosorbide dinitrate. Nitrates are also present in recreational drugs known as poppers (amyl nitrite). Taking sildenafil with nitrates can cause a serious fall in blood pressure.

Eropid is also not suitable if you take riociguat, or if you have severe heart or liver problems, have recently had a stroke or heart attack, have low blood pressure, or have a hereditary degenerative eye condition such as retinitis pigmentosa.

Side effects

Reported side effects of sildenafil include headache, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion, dizziness, nausea, hot flush and visual disturbance including blurred vision or a blue tinge to vision.

Seek urgent medical help if you experience an erection lasting more than four hours, sudden loss of vision, sudden loss of hearing, or chest pain during or after sexual activity.

Storage

Store below 30°C in the original packaging, out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack.
