About Eropid 50mg Tablets

Eropid 50mg film-coated tablets contain the active substance sildenafil (as the citrate salt). Sildenafil belongs to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors.

Eropid is used in adult men aged 18 years and over with erectile dysfunction. This is when a man cannot get, or keep, an erection hard enough for sexual activity.

Eropid is a Pharmacy (P) medicine, supplied following a short assessment by our pharmacist.

How it works

Sildenafil works by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis, allowing blood to flow in when a man is sexually stimulated. Sexual stimulation is required — Eropid will not produce an erection without it.

How to take Eropid

• Take one 50mg tablet approximately one hour before sexual activity.
• Swallow the tablet whole with a drink of water.
• Do not take more than one tablet in any 24-hour period.
• The time taken to work varies between individuals; it is usually 30 to 60 minutes. It may be taken up to four hours before sexual activity.
• Taking Eropid after a heavy or high-fat meal may delay the time it takes to work.
• Do not take Eropid with grapefruit or grapefruit juice, as this can affect how the medicine works.

Who should not take Eropid

Do not take Eropid if you:

• Take nitrates or nitric oxide donors such as glyceryl trinitrate (GTN), isosorbide mononitrate or isosorbide dinitrate, or nicorandil. This includes recreational substances known as “poppers” (amyl or butyl nitrite). Taking these with sildenafil can cause a serious fall in blood pressure.
• Take riociguat, a medicine for pulmonary hypertension.
• Have severe heart or liver problems.
• Have recently had a stroke or heart attack, or have low blood pressure.
• Have a rare inherited eye disease such as retinitis pigmentosa.
• Have ever had loss of vision because of non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION).
• Are allergic to sildenafil or any of the other ingredients.

Eropid is not for use by women, or by anyone under 18 years of age.

Speak to our pharmacist or your doctor before taking Eropid if you have heart problems, diabetes, high or low blood pressure, a bleeding disorder or stomach ulcer, sickle cell anaemia, multiple myeloma or leukaemia, a deformity of the penis, or if you are taking any other medicines.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Eropid can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Commonly reported effects include headache, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion, dizziness and disturbed vision.

Stop taking Eropid and seek medical help immediately if you experience an erection lasting more than four hours, sudden loss or reduction of vision, sudden loss of hearing, chest pain, or signs of a serious allergic or skin reaction such as blistering or peeling of the skin, or swelling of the mouth, genitals or around the eyes.

Eropid can cause dizziness and can affect vision. Do not drive or use machines if you are affected.

Storage

Store below 30°C in the original packaging. Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.
